The fuzzy is 4-5" and we found 2 dwarf zebra (?) lions 1-2" at the LFS, price too good to pass up and they were too cute. LFS, said he expect they would do fine together.
A little funky. The fizzy has charged the little guys a few times and the SF eel is a bit too interested. I hope everything settles down soon. We will see
Cute little guys

If those zebras are both males they are going to fight and there's no way to tell the difference.
They also may or may not fight with males of the same genus. Even if everything settles down for now, when they reach maturity it may raise it's head again.
They are nice, hope it works out, but it's definitely a crap shoot. Pray for all woman and you will be fine.

:( lost one of the new guys overnight, the one with the closest red coloration as the fuzzy. Hard to tell what happened as the crabs and snails got to him before I did. No chunks missing so pretty sure it is not the eel.

IME, it seems like D. zebra comes in with cooties, or are being handled poorly. baby specimens are particularly delicate. we've lost both zebras that we've tried. we currently keep 6 specimens of 5 species of lions, including a bluefin, which is why i think there has been a problem with the stock coming in.
good luck with the second zebra.

Ohhh... that's too bad. I hope they didn't have flukes because a lot of them at the wholesalers recently seemed to have them and I myself right now have one undergoing treatment for such. If they had flukes your other fish could get them as well.

i'm not much of a fish disease weenie, but here's my simple version:
flukes are small worm-like parasites (trematodes) up to 2mm in length. technically, they are monogenean trematodes. (monogenean describes the fact they only need one host to complete their life cycle.
these critters have hooklike projections that they use to cling to and move around on the host (there are skin flukes and gill flukes). these hooks cause tissue damage, which opens the fish up to secondary bacterial infections.
so, yeah...they're kinda nasty critters. i believe Renee treats them with Prazipro.

Lost the other one also, first one in 12 hours second one in 36 hours. Hard to accept that as agression from other fish.
Lesson learned. Eventhough the LFS is an hour away, we should have put down a deposit and had them hold the little guys for 2 weeks. They had only come in "about a week ago," maybe too soon to move them again.

Mine is still going strong but has no desire to try the little peice of shrimp I cut to look like a whole shrimp attached to fishing line dangling in front of its face. It doesn't hesitate when I drop a live shrimp in though. I have no silversides at the moment, they are on the way, so will try those as soon as they get here, I may end up feeding some of my tetras if I run out of live shrimp.

Our fuzzy ate clam. I bought some of the little frozen ones on the 1/2 shell, but I don't see what is different from fresh supermarket one cut into chunks. I have pretty good flow across the front on the tank (60 hex), when food get shot across it seems to trigger him to feed.
His face and fins gets an amazing red when he is on the hunt.

Been a rough couple of weeks in this tank.
After the baby lions died (LFS gave full credit) the little spotted puffer got sick and promptly dies (he look swollen) and the Fuzzy Dwarf Lion started acting very funny. We treated with kick-ick as it was the only thing we had on hand and it seemed to help quite a bit.
The Fuzzy got very pale and pulled up tight in a corner of the tank. A couple of times we thought he was a gonner. THen we noticed a ripped fin and chewed tail. THe LFS suspected the lunear wrasse (did not know they are nasty and in 6 months never saw him hit anything), rehomed him and things seem better, but not normal
There is a medium cin/tomato clown, sf eel and a damsel left in the tank with the fuzzy. Questioning if the clown goes also
4 days ago we put in 4 half-sized mollies. Amazing we saw them picking at the fuzzy's spines! Last night 3 of the 4 disappeared :) a good sign. We are not planning on feeding mollies all the time, just looking to stimulate the lion
Hopefully everything will settle down. At the end of the summer, the plan is to start a 90 or 120 (4') build similar to the 125 we finished a couple of months ago (thread on the FOWLR forum) as a lion tank.
Thoughts on what to put in that tank? Fuzzy, eel and volitan are definate. suggestions?

Any feeding suggestions for a Fuzzy Lion. Had my dwarf for about three weeks and have been mostly feeding live ghost shrimp. Have tried chopped shrimp, claims, squid, but haven't actually seen the lion eating any prepared food. Seems that his tankmates beat him out to anything I try to feed him. (sharpnose sandperch, tangs, clowns, foxface) Would like to cut down the number of trips to the LFS for live food.
