My little giant pump for my 210 gallon setup is on the fritz starting and stopping without regularity. I think I should purchase a new one asap any suggestions on a reliable pump this large.

What size pump is it? Check out the Gen-X Series Pumps. Much better to run in the long run. GPH per GPH the Gen-X is cheaper to run. How is it plumbed in the system? Will a Quiet One Pump work for you?
Starting and stopping...Hmm... Have you looked at the wiring, to see if maybe a lead has vibrated somewhat loose? Does it have the salt water shaft seal in it? Has the shaft rusted out because of that? Thermally kicking out then restarting?

Thanks for the reply, I'll look into the gen x series but the rest of that was a little over my head. The pump seems to have worked the kinks out, it has been running uninterupted now for an hour or so, we will see what happens.

He has a Little Giant 3-MDQ-SC. It puts out 700 GPH. Does anyone think he needs more in a 210?
What is a good pump that is quiet? What is the best pump on the market (quality/quietness/cost)?
Thanks.

Easily, one that will put out quite a bit more than 700gph (for a 210) 1500gph, is a Quiet One Pump, or my favorite Gen-X at 1537gph. Cost to you in the short run may seem big, but, if you look at what the Little Giants put out in wattage on a 24/7 basis, they are the worst on the market.

Have you oiled it?
It has wafer bearings, not ball bearings in the motor.
Also, check the impeller for bits and peices of FOD.

Best pumps on the market is the Red Dragons' but a little pricey....I'd opt at looking at the Sequence line before purchasing another LG

Sequence makes a fairly economical line of pumps with great values.I have been running 6 Sequence pumps now for over 5 years non-stop on my outside ponds setups...They have been submerged by floods (hurricanes etc) dried out and keep on a trucking. Economoical with power consumption and not a fortune to buy.
