Live Phytoplankton in NY State

I live in NY State in the buffalo area and I am looking for live phytoplankton to restart my continious culture. I breed Clownfish and I am currently having some major problems with my supplier. I have not had enough phytoplankton to raise my baby clowns. Currently they are just passing away due to lack of food and it is breaking my heart. I am willing to come pick it up if it's close enough. I have cash, corals, or fish for the phytoplankton. My e-mail is mscarpena@msn.com. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

May I suggest using concentrated dead phyto to feed your Rotifers? Do a google search for Instant Algae. Avoid their cryopaste, it has a glycerine additive that encourages cililiate growth and it can crash your Rotifer culture.

I have seen that stuff a Reed mariculture, but it's expensive. I also sell a good bit of live phytoplankton. I would prefer to culture live. I normally get the disks of concentrated dry algae because they keep for about 1 yr, but I have gone through 6 of them and the algae just does not grow. The agar seems dried out and I think the algae is dead. I contacted the supplier and they said not my problem it's your, but I have been raising phyto for 4 yrs now and have never had an issue. I have raised thousdands of clowns, but can't get this algae to start up again. I'm very frustrated and disappointed. I beleive you raise fish as well. If you are willing to part with some phyto if you have some extra I would be willing to pay and drive out to get it. Thanks for the suggestion. It's a last resort, but I think I will have to go that route. What do you use live or the dead concentrate? Thanks.

Also where do you get your culturing supplies from and what do you use. The liquid starter culture or the algae disks.

I use the dead concentrate. It costs a little more but it's 100% reliable because it can't crash. I do grow live phyto in the summer outside but that culture has gone dormant until spring I'm afraid.
There is a guy in the Upstate Reef Society that would probably be able to provide a starter culture (live). I'll see if I can get him to contact you. Can you send me your e-mail address? just write a short note to guynwarsaw@yahoo.com.

I think I am going to take your advice and use the instant algae. I am limited on space and time. After thinking about it I think the Instant Algae is the solution. Thanks for all your help. Let me know what types of fish you breed and raise. I am interested in getting some more pairs possibly.
