I have some oscars/cichlids/plecos that I have had for several months, i just cleaned out all of the prior rock at bottom and replaced with sand, but didnt take the fish out, It was stupid as now I am concerned about my fish.
Please help. Very worried.
It is clearing up some and I have 2 filters, a fluval 2 and a regular filter that hangs off side.
I can only see corners and about 2 inches in all around. help!

Hi,
Reef sand is for SALTWATER fish...last time I checked oscars / cichlids / plecos are freshwater fish.
Remove your fish to buckets and clean your tank. Get some dechlorinator and live bacteria. Maybe go to the fish store and ask for a few pieces of decoration you see loaded with algae to help with some bacteria and maybe some sponges from the stores filters.
What you want for substrate is gravel for freshwater tanks.

They can be in there another few hours. Right? I plan on buying a new smaller temporary tank and then putting in some dry sand that's not live

The sooner they are out, the better, especially since sand particles are now suspended in the water and being breathed by the fish. Sand particles can be quite irritating to fish tissue.
