Natural Bio Filter. The living creatures in the rock are part of a natural process that break down the fish poop/ excess food/ and things that die. No man made filter is perfect as nature but we try.

.There are also many fish that need foods that we cannot replicate as well. Many fish such as tangs and butterflies need to be able to graze naturally all day long. LR and LS add to the stability of the "mini ocean" that we try to replicate. This is a mini ecosystem. The less you have to rely on man made filtration the closer you come to these fish's natural habitat.
