hello everyone!
i have an order of LR on its way and am wondering what to do when it gets here?
it will have die off and do i throw it in a rubbermaid with a light and filter and cure it?
it has already been cured since it came from a tank but it is cold out going from wyoming to Connecticut or just throw it i my tank?

Is it going into an existing tank or a new one?
If it is going into a tank that is already running then you need to cure it in some rubbermaid tubs.
If it is going into a new tank then just throw it in and let the die off start the cycle for you.

no, its going in a 2 yr old reef. i kinda figured i would have to cure it again but wasnt sure cus it was a mature tank.
i will just put it in a rubbermade then.

My rock Came all the way from Washington to Kentucky, the guy I purchased it from wrapped each peice in wet newspaper and then wrapped it in plastic, I put it in my tank as soon as I got it and had absolutely no dieoff and all kinds of cool little hitchhikers that made the journey too. All kinds of purple coraline, the box was lined with stryafoam and he did have heat packs in it though. Depends on how much rock you are adding a 2 year old tank should be able to handle a small spike if any. IMO

How did you have it shipped. I personally would not take a chance on adding it into a existing established tank. Too big of a risk. It is just as easy to buy a rubber made tote and put a heater and power head in it and let it cure. Why chance your display tank...

+1 i would put it in a tote for a few days then check the ammonia.
if there is ammonia change out the water and check again in another few days untill it is zero.
i added 60 lbs a few months ago and after the 3 days it was zero so i added it tio the dt and had no cycle.
always better safe than sorry

Even if you dont have anything living in your tank, I would still use the rubbermaid idea. I wish I had done that. I used a toothbrush to lightly scrub my rock. Instead of pulling things out that were growing, I just cut them off flush with the rock.
Im no expert but thats what I did.
My rock was in transit for 6 days and it still started growing stuff after being placed in the tank, but the amonia killed it off.
