I went to this fish store and they had live rock for $8.98 a pound. Is this too much money for live rock? How many pounds of live rock should I get for my 46 gallon? Thanks.
Price varies by your location and they type of rock you're buying. If the rock looks great then $8.98 probably isn't bad. If it's white, ugly, or just looks like crap then I wouldn't buy it.
I would go with 40-50 lbs. of rock in that size tank. If you want to cut costs, use about half live rock and have base rock. The live rock will seed the base rock and make it live.
The Live Rock from this site is very good and average of 5 to 6 dollars a pound. I got 65 pounds of it and looks good. Purple coraline coming in nice with some light green, and pink.
Try huntin around at some other LFS, compare the stuff, and then decide for yourself whether or not it is a good deal. IMO, the best place to buy LR is online because it tends to be sold cheaper in bulk.
It depends on what your looking for. You can buy lr on the web for $3 to $6 per lbs which is alot cheaper than you will get in a lfs. The problem is that if you are adding this rock to an already cycled tank you will need to cure it in a seperate tank, tote, etc.... If you buy it from a lfs tank (not curing vat) then it will be already cured and you can take it home and put it right into your tank. You pay a little more but you also get to pick each piece yourself instead of hoping that you have nice pieces coming in the box. Make sure you keep the lr wet during the ride home from lfs.
JMO......
Thanks everybody. I'll probably save my money to get the live rock off of this website. But does anybody know about any other sites that sell live rock for a good price?

Out of respect to the mods and the owners of this site and forum we can not name competitors sites. You will have to look for them yourself. Sorry
