I just placed an order for the 20-25 lb. package. When I receive it, can I just add to my tank or do I need to do anything to it first?
I've got a 55 gal. tank with about 20 lbs. live rock in it now. Can't want for it to arrive.

established tank with fish and inverts?
If so, I would cure it first before adding it to my tank, if not, jsut add it to what you have.

Hey, when you get it can you post how many pieces and the approx size of those pieces? I am thinking about ordering the same thing, but don't want to end up with one big ass 25lbs rock sitting in my 40 gallon tank.
Thanks,

will give a report on what I receive. My tank has been set up about eight months now with fish, inverts, a few soft corals, etc.

I actually prefer the Big pieces. A hammer an a chissel make them into the right shapes and sizes in the tank!

Don't worry, a 25# piece would be considered very "primo" and you would be unlikely to get one for a shipment. More likely you would see a variety of sizes, from meduim (one or two chunks) to what might be considered rubble. Even the rubble is useful, though, if only to toss in the sand bed as decoration.
I'd suggest a search for "curing live rock" for lots of info on how to handle newly shipped rock.

if i bought live rock from this site, would there be a chance of me getting a mantis shrimp or bristal worm in any of the rocks? i have a 15 gallon tank and am deathly afraid of any of those two getting into my tank....

While the chances are slim, I guess you could get a mantis as a hitchhiker on any rock from any site or even from your LFS. However, the benefits of LR FAR outweigh the risk. Bristleworms are not necessarily a bad thing in your tank, just some ppl prefer not to have them or to have them in large quantities. So I say go for it if you have interest in live rock.

I always kind of hope for some hitch hikers even if they are of the "bad" variety. Except MAYBE for a mantis and only because they're capable of shattering glass. The unexpected has always been my very favorite part of live rock.

Somewheres I remember reading that the rock might stink but it really doesn't have a bad smell, just an 'ocean' type smell. I've got it soaking in some saltwater now, but seems like I read if it doesn't stink then it's probably ok to put in tank. Any comments?
Also there were quite a few what looked to be similar to fruit flies in the package. They are alive in the water and some are coming out of the water while I've got it soaking and actually flying. Any idea of what these are and if they are supposed to be in the saltwater?
As far as the rock goes, I weighed the package and it was 22 lbs. About eight or nine total pieces of rock, two of them about the size of a small football and the others a little smaller. Not really any stunning pieces of rock, but all the same, I'm satisfied with my purchase and will probably purchase more down the road from swf.com.

I believe most people will tell you to keep your new rock in "isolation" in a rubbermaid or whatever for at least a week before putting it into your tank. There may be some die-off from transit, and you don't want the die-off to cause an ammonia spike in your tank. An extra heater (even a seriously cheapie) and a powerhead will be beneficial. We kept turning the rock around while it was in "QT" to be sure all surfaces got the benefit of the current to shake off any dead stuff. An old toothbrush works, too, to clean up the rock. Just be careful that you're not scrubbing away any good stuff!! And definately don't use your roommate's toothbrush. You can also stick in a cheapie filter or even a bag of carbon for the short term until the rock goes into your tank. Enjoy!
