Live Rock Looks Like Paint

i just recently bought some "live rock" from the lfs and it looks purple.. but you cant scratch it or anything.. some spots chip off like someone just spray painted it dark purple... any help?

you want it to be purple, why are you trying to scrape it off?

i was just trying to scrape off a section of it with a tip of a fishing pole it wouldnt even scratch...

i also see very very tiny light purple soft stuff looks like tree branches in the winter but purple

its coralline algae and people go thru great lengths to grow/buy rock with it encrusted onto it.

If this is a new tank don't be alarmed if all the purple parts turn white. This happens a lot when live rock is moved to a different tank. It will eventually turn purple again.
