Live Rock Placement

I have a 30 Gallon tank with about 20 pounds of live rock in it. The tank is about 6 months old. Since I started the tank, the LR has been in the center of the tank. Almost everytime I go to do water changes my LR falls down. I am considering putting the rock up against the back glass of the tank. Is there anything wrong with this? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! Dan

I don't recommend putting rock against the glass as it makes it hard for the water to circulate and you get dead spots. The dead spots are going to bring on the water quality problems.
Instead, I'd get some new pieces of rock that fit better together. The rule of thumb I read about and use is the rock needs to touch in three places to be stable enough for fish. When I do water changes I don't experience these problems. Maybe another piece or two of rock will help create a more stable wall of rocks.

IMO LR is like fitting a jigsaw puzzle together...all my peices are "locked" together. i have a 55 gallon, and bout 60 pounds of LR. none touches the glass. <makes for easier cleaning if need be> except for the bottom of the tank...i put LR in for i do the LS. don't want my little miners to get crushed... you jst have to work them together untill they "LOCK". if you cant shake them around with your hand...a fish or anything else sure cant move them.

you might want to go to *****... get about a 4 foot thick tubing for 99 cents a foot.. just put one end in and suck it out till you see water comming then put it in a bucket itll get it all out without disturbing anything!
