I don't recommend putting rock against the glass as it makes it hard for the water to circulate and you get dead spots. The dead spots are going to bring on the water quality problems.
Instead, I'd get some new pieces of rock that fit better together. The rule of thumb I read about and use is the rock needs to touch in three places to be stable enough for fish. When I do water changes I don't experience these problems. Maybe another piece or two of rock will help create a more stable wall of rocks.
