Live Rock question

Think I read this is someone's post, but I cannot find it again. Can I add LR to an existing tank without the tank cycling again? What I read was that I could add small amounts of LR (say 1-2 lbs) at a time and the tank wouldn't re-cycle. My thoughts are that this weekend I would go to the LFS and purchase a small piece and place it in my tank next to my "dead" rocks. I would do this every couple weeks or so until I got 10-15 lbs of LR.
Does this make sense? Thanks!

I have put up to 8 pounds of live rock in my tank at one time without any problems. It all depends on how mature the tank is and if the rock is cured if you will get any spikes.

The tank is about 1 1/2 months past its cycle. Do most LFS stores sell cured LR? Or do I need to do the curing? And how can one tell if LR is cured or not cured?
Thanks!

Smell it. Cured live rock smells like the ocean. Uncured smells like.....well it smells REALLY bad.....

Some LFS's will sell cured L/R, but it will cost a bit more. You could just pick out some uncured and set up a makeshift curing tank, and do it at your own pace.
This will give your tank more time to mature while you have more L/R getting ready.
That is how I did my 30 gal. ...if you need any info on how to cure your own seperately, ask away.

I recently added about 10lbs of LR to my 90gFOWLR, it was purchased from my lfs "cured", been in there about a week so far so good.
