I just bought 6lbs of cured live rock today from my lfs. Im just wondering if I can put it in my display tank rightaway or do I have to wait and put in a bucket for a while? Thanks....

If it is cured (like you said) you should be able to put it right in. If it is uncured, generally a good scrub for die off is necessary before putting it in.

i would give it a qwik SW bath and put it into your display tank... it also depends on how long its been out thought too...

Your rock is uncured then, so you need to cure it before putting it in your DT or your parameters will go up. You know it is cured when you have clean ocean smell to it.

well that depends on how big your tank is. and how well it handles bioload. in my 29g tank i can put up to 5lbs of live rock without any spike.i've done this a few times.

Certainly, but that doesn't mean it is a good idea to do. I would put the rocks in a rubbermaid container of saltwater with a powerhead and a heater for a week and then test the water. If all remains zero after about 6-7 days then it is safe to add it to your dt.

like i said it depends of size of tank. i wouln't advise to do this in a 29g. that was just my experience with my tank but if you're are adding this 6lbs of lr to a 125g. i don't see how it can cause a problem

Alot of LFS' like to call rock "cured" so they can put a higher price on it. 6lbs of uncured rock in a 210 will cause spikes. I am not trying to challange what you have done or what can be done. I have seen these issues many times on here where someone buys supposed to be cured rock, adds it to their tank, then has huge spikes. It is always best to place new rock in a conainer and test for ammonia. There is no harm in prevention, but disaster can strike without it. :happyfish

cured or uncured, 6lbs of lr will not cause the same impact in a 29g as the larger tank will, wich will also be easyer to get under control in case of a spike.

ok My tank size is 46g bowfront. I already have atleast 25 pounds of liverock in it and I added 6pounds more. I smell the rocks and they do not have a stinky smell like uncured rocks..So in case theirs a spike what do I have to do control the spike???

Waterchanges will help if there is a spike, I would suggest doing a small one every few days for about a week. IMO 6 lbs will be fine, but a few smalle extra water changes should help if there is a spike.
