my tank is cycling right now, but it seems that most of my live rock is turning brown.... what is it... ?? is it good..?? is it part of the cycling phase? it gets darker by the day...... please help..
Agreed, it's diatom algae and it's a natural part of the cycle - usually towards the end. It will go away as long as it does not have anything to feed on (phosphates, silicates, etc.) What kind of water are you using?
You should be all set! Have fun with your new tank! It's hard to wait through cycling, but it's sooooo well worth it when you do it right! It's a good thing that you are taking this time to gain info! Also, as far as diatoms - make sure you don't overstock or overfeed!
