live rock turning white

I've noticed that most of my live rock have started to turn white. I'm not sure if it comes off or not but the tops of the rock have turned completely white. Is this normal? What's going on?

Your coraline algea is dying off. Check your water, calcium levels.

what do you mean by calcium levels? all my necessary levels are fine like nitrites, nitrates, ph, ammonia, and alkalinity. Will these "algae" grow back sometime if the water conditions are right again?

coraline algea is a living organisim and needs to have an inviroment in order to survive lighting and minerals are an esential part to its health. There are several products on the market that can help, but it will take a few mounths to get the color back.
I personaly use a product called coral vital by Marc Weiss this along with a Kalkwasser drip [at least once a week]will have coraline blooming all over your tank.
if you intend to keep corals you will need to use this plus a calcium addative and keep it a 420 parts per liter [ppl]. But inorder for the skeletons of corals, clams, snalls, and hermits to absorb the calcium argonite and magnisum must be present, along with the proper alkalinity.check out natureef . com

Yes the coraline will grow back. Eric pretty much covered it. Just keep your water conditions as good as possible. And additives like Eric mentioned will realy help. I've cut back to just using a product called Sea Chem Reef Calcium. My rock is covered in green, purple, and pink coraline.
