Live rock Vultures

I know I am going to hear about this, but I have seen this statement several times. "live rock vultures". I burns me up to hear that comment. I for one am a stay at home mom with a love for saltwater. I too take the chance to get nice rock when it is at a good price. Yes I have paid pet store prices and I wont get much like that. Sorry just had to vent. I know people on here that have nothing but top dollar live rock and I think thats great too. It is what you can afford.

Live rock vultures are the people that want to buy live rock, usually like in the classified you will see people asking will you sell live rock seperately from the tank setup. It just sounds rude to refer to people as vultures.

There are many people who, frankly, seem to brag a bit about how much they're whatever cost them...like it is status. Well most of my stuff was "free" and I make do quite nicely thanks. Yes, there is duct tape on part of my system. Its not top of the line, it doesn't have a name brand, but it works. And the same is true of LR. The only top $$ LR I bought was when I worked at an LFS and had a discount. All the rest was from local hobbyists at around $2.50 a pound. I think it is being frugal. Anyone who buys stuff online is being frugal. If you beat them at the game then so be it.
Besides, I imagine very few people actually sell a complete set up and so it may help them if they can at least start parting some stuff out.

I set up my tank with top $$ liverock and it was alright, but I recently bought some from a guy that was tearing down his tank and all of the sudden, my tank is loaded with creepy crawly doodads and my old more expensive rock is coloring up quite nicely. I'm a vulture, and you know what, vultures are quite good to have around

some time last year i was visiting my lfs. i don't remember who i was talking to or what i was talking about, but i joked about getting rid of my tank.
and this customer who must've overheard the conversation came out of nowhere and got within two feet of me.
"you are getting rid of your tank??"
"uh.."
"i will buy all your live rocks"
"dood... i am just joking."
now i recall it, he did look like a vulture.

No, I was not whining. (I do still think it sounds rude to refer to people as vultures), but I will say I have bought alot of used equipment and live goods from people on this board and if I get the chance at a good deal on live rock I might just be one LOL.
