Live Rock wiht SOMETHING ON IT?

Sorry I dont have a picture yet. I purchased a live rock with some sort of live growth. The store couldnt tell me what it is so I will try to describe it. By the way I have four aquarist books and none of them identify this thing or things. Fistly it is a maroon color with what looks like green star shapes. (Yes it is very cool looking). When I first placed it in the tank it looked like a large growth of small spines (laid flat) and didnt really do anything. After about a week the 'spines' were standing up and would quickly lay flat if I moved near it with my hand. I will try to take a pic and post it. It is an encrusting organism or organisms that have formed a covering over the rock like coraline alge would. If anyone knows what this could be that would be great. Thanks.

I know it is a bad description, there are no polyps, but last night when I got home to take pictures I saw for the first time serveral 1/4 inch clear (looks like sweeper) tentacles from around the edge of the "growth" and the "spines were really waving in the motion of the water. The "star" shatpe can only be seen when the spines are laying flat and the "spines" are only about 1MM long. This is a reef tank with polyps in it but this thing is not the same. I will post pictures tonight and try to capture video and add a link. I would really like to know what this thing is! I love it how every time you go to the tank it is never the same!
