live rock

I have recently treated my 46 gallon tank with cupramine due to an outbreak of ick. I believe my main problem was that I have no live rock and my ammonia levels shot up when I added new fish. I am currently treating the tank with activated carbon to remove the copper. I would like to add live rock now. I believe I need about 45 pounds. Is this correct? Will the copper effect anything (other than invertebrates) in terms of the benefits of live rock? Does it matter which kind of live rock I get? Thanks. Any advice is appreciated.

If it was me I would do a 25% water change and add LR slowly. Don't add it all at once. Maybe 5 pounds every 2 weeks.

yes it is 1-1/2 pound lr toevery gal. I'm not sure if the copper wil bother anything on the lr. Did you cylce the tank first before adding fish?
