Good question, I am new to this forum and I have just set up my first saltwater tank and waiting for it to cycle. I purchased mollies and did the conversion using a 55 gallon tank and it seems most of the fish I am interested in will require some rock to hide in and I am also curious as to what to expect when looking for live rock to buy. My lfs is a mess and their tanks don't impress me as to the care given them so I am checking out this site and considering purchases. Any comments would be GREATLY appreciated!

Can you narrow down your search area? I only know the Houston area but that may be too far.
Look also for any local reef clubs which hands down would have the best deals on LR.

i am in southwest louisiana (lake charles, fort polk, alexandria) close to the texas border. jasper, bon wier, newton. but i'll drive as far as houston for a good deal. i don't know of any reef clubs around here. all the searches i've done, i haven't come upon any yet, not in my area anyway, but i'll check around. thanks

Hmmm...well our local reef club is Marshreef.com. You will probably not find better deals at a LFS over online, especially with the cost of driving. You can sometimes however find people breaking down their tanks, and so get a good amount of LR for cheap.
