Hello every one. I am new to this and have two fish only tanks, one 50g and a 55g. I am now trying to get into some corals. I purchased some dead base rock and some LR from the LFS and i can't tell the differene between the live rock that I got and the base rock that i had. Ive heard that live rock can have corals on it as well as other hitchikers like feather dusters and the such. I was wanting to know where is the best place to get (what I have heard called deco live rock) with out breaking the bank. and what is the best way to take care of live rock. I live in colorado and was also wanting to know if there are any local groups here that can help a new hobbyist. thank you all for all the great post that I have read so far.

HI,
I too live in Colorado and its tough finding someplace or a group that you can trust to get good answers for your questions. I find this BB a good source of information...but it would be nice to have good LFS to be able to see some of the fish and equipment up close.
I live in Pueblo, and I dont know if there are better stores in Denver or Colorado Springs to get advice and quality livestock.
But, I still dont let it deter my enthusiasm for this hobby

Hawaiian Base rocks would be a great choice, google search the rocks, very inexpensive!!! Hardiest corals to start with would be stuffs like soft corals and LPS corals. You should start to do some studies on lighting as well before you go any further. Also stuff about flows, calcium, alkaline, and PH, cares needed for your corals and live rock. SPS requires a bit more work with extra flow and a good set of lights. Good Luck! :happyfish
