Hello All! My father has just switched to a saltwater aquarium today. He has a 55 Gallon set up, he purchased 125lbs of live rock. He says that the rocks has brown hair on them, but no odor and it is not slimy. He wants to know if the live rock is good or bad?**It is not fiji live rock, it is some type of rock that was $.99lb(sale)

At that low of a price? Are you sure it was live rock from a salt water tank or ocean? That is awfully cheap, I would double check it's origin to make sure everything is ok.

That is cheap. You sure it is hair algea and not diatoms (which would make sense since it is in the cycle process.

Well he said that they told him that it was live rock for a saltwater aquarium. Sorry the price was $1.99 lb. He also says that he has lots and lots of micro bubbles and does not know how to get rid of them. He asked me and I have yet to experience those annoying little micro bubbles.

What is the source of the micro bubble, sump pump or return line? Adding water to increase the sump level should solve the problem if it's the pump drawing in air. It could be a small air leak in the return line due to a crack or loose fit at the connections. I have had to replace my return outlets due to the LFS drilling a small hole above my water level directly above the outlet, it shot the water into the tank right at the outlet creating lots of those annoying bubbles and then sending them throughout the tank. I replace them and drilled the holes facing the opposite direction and this eliminated the problems. Hope this helps.
