i just added about 15lbs of live rock. i was reading on another site that live rock had to be cured first. i brought it home a just put it in the tank. so, what happens now?

live rock is usually used to start a nitrogen cycle in new tanks, im assuming yours is new? i wrote a step by step setup guide, maybe itll help: http://www.aquariumresource.com/setupguide.php
if your tank isnt new then yes, it has to be cured before you put it in there unless your tank is mature enough to handle an ammonia spike from the dieoff.

The answer depends on a couple of things:
Was the rock fully cured when you bought it? You say you brought it home so I assume you got it from LFS - how long was it out of water?
If it was fully cured and not out of water for more than an hour you will likely NOT have any problems.
If not - it depends on the size tank, how old it is and how much is already in it - but as stated above you will need to watch for any ammonia spike - if it hits .25 you may want to do a small water change (assuming you have something alive in tank - snails, shrimp, fish...)

tank 4+years old 115g. lr was out of water for about 30min. stock list is a 12'' volitian lion, yellow tank, 4-5 inch domino damsel, and another tang looking fish that is grayish with yellow tiped fins.i always had just base rock because i didnt know the benifits of lr. all the fish are about 2yrs old. how do i tell if is been cured or not. i got the lr out of a display tank at the lfs.

If it was in the display tank at least 2wks it shouls be cured. Also since your tank is that old it most likely can handle it. By the way your base rock is now live rock.
What makes lr live is the bacteria that inhabits it over time. iF IT IS MARINE TYPE ROCKS THEN IT BECOMES LIVE. aND ADDING THE NEW LR WILL EVEN MAKE IT BETTER ADDING MORE BIODIVERSITY.
