Sand because you don't have to vacuum it. If you go with sand make deep sand bed which is 4-6"
deep of sand, also dead sand will eventually will
become live sand.
I wouldn't go with cc because all the fish waste gets trapped in the cc and will cause high nitrate's .

i notice youre from bessemer. what seems to be the best lfs in birmingham?? ive got a brother who lives in inverness, i myself live in scottsboro, but i have to travel to huntsville or chattanooga to get a descent store.

I believe that LS is much better than CC. But non live sand will become live if you give it the proper time but LS will get you going much sooner.
