Live sand question

Can anyone suggest an alternative to buying live sand like carib-sea or arag-alive? Would childrens play sand work? I wanted to add some depth to the sand bed in my 75 gallon reef tank as well as the new sump I'm building. I have approximatley 1-1 1/2 inch of arag-alive mixed in with agronite already, would this be sufficient enough to seed childrens play sand? Thanks.

There is a lot of argument about this subject. I used the play sand and nothing negative happened. It is fine In My Experience. And yes that is plenty to seed the new sand. Also you dont even need the arag-live sand to seed it you just need live rock. If you dont have live rock the arag-live sand is fine.

There are 3 or 4 brands of "tropical play sand" that are available for purchase at some home improvement stores like Lowes and Home Depot. I forget the name brands, but if you do a search on this forum and on the Newbie forum, I'm sure you will find it. I think two of them are "Southdown" and "Old Castle."
These are very inexpensive alternatives to buying it at the lfs.
