Live sand question ???

I have a live sand bed that I "found" at the beach and I have had it for about 4 months. I want to sift out all the rocks and shells so I have a nice smooth sand with no ugly shells and such. Is this a good idea or should I leave it? Thanks for any suggestions.

leave it, that one is smuthered in cheez(as i like to say)and the one from the store has bacteria to reduce things like nitrates and special water purifying bacteria, think about it if you have like a 50 gallon aquarium you can buy about 3 packs of sand for about 70$ in the long run it will help your aquarium, this is FREE ooh free always get free...WRONG!!! if you get this i don't even doubt it will damage your tank.

Yeah, I already have it. That's why my tank has a bunch of little broken shells and such.

you shouldn't use sand from the beach in your tank.
