BROWN DIATOM ALGAE: usually accurs in newer reef tanks. mostly because of the introduction of live rock, wich introduces silicates and nutrients to your tank.
a brown film soon coats your sand bed.The control of diotoms is fairly easy.u first need a benificial cleen up crew trochus and astraea snails eagerly consume the brown diotoms. The second thing u want to do is perform regular water changes to remove access nutrients.
whats your salinity at?

my salinty is over 1.030 thats the highest my gage goes to, also think i messed up too. When i got my live rock i put in the tank right away, i thought precured live rock was cured. Then i took it out and this started, i'm to this hobby. I'm curing my live rock now.

do u have a swing arm type hydrometer . those things stink imo.
u can always lower your salinity by taking a small percentage of water out of the tank and replacing it with fresh water

in a new tank set up it usually takes a month for your tank to cycle
the live rock will act as your biological filtration . at the start of your cycle your ammonia will be detected, turning to nitrite then to nitrate . so u cant really add any live stock till the cycles complete.
what size tank do u have and how much live rock?
