live Sand

For some reason my live sand is turning orange on top. Does anyone know what causes this.

It is probably diatoms it is a normal part of having a new tank especially if you use tap water

Diatoms, welcome to the newly cycled tank world. Ha! It will go away on it's own. Ugly to look at but will dimenish. Just don't use tap water or you will get alot more.

I did use tap water to set up. Now I am using water that is already made up. Cost 99 cent a gal. Thanks for the info

your getting premixed for a buck where? one of my LFS wants like 3 or 4 bucks for premixed

it is called North dallas aquarium. and Fresh is only .37 a gal. That is the only thing there they have cheap though, there fish are alittle pricey.
