Live Sand

The tank that I am getting has crushed coral and I have to move it anyways so I wondered if I am doing a reef tank do I need Live sand. Also I heard that u can buy normal sand for the majority of the tank and put the live sand on top of that and make the rest live. Is this true and what normal sand can I use ( sandbox sand or what)

if the tank is free of livestock, you can use dry sand and seed it with live sand
if you do so, i prefer aragonite sand(not the coarse stuff that looks like cc). if arag is not available you can use silica sand like quickrete play sand

I have a clown fish and some damsels and som feather dusters, mushrooms, and cucumbers. will this hurt the fish If i put it in during the move?
