I'll be in Big Pine Key August 8-12. We know of a few "condos" that hold alot of bugs. I've got a Sea Chaser 24' offshore with 250 Yamaha, upper controls.

I bet it has gone up 10-15 fold! Have you seen what they are asking for the concrete little houses and duplexes along charter row? They are like 900K+. Ridiculous! Maybe will will hook up some time down there. I try to get down about 6 times a year.

I am good friends with Jerry who was the dive master at Hooks unti the new people bought it. His wife runs the abyss dive shop that just moved out of the Holiday Inn. He turned some dive friends of mine onto several uncharted wrecks that they said were amazing. I am not certified but will slip out once in a while up to 50-60 feet. I am actually a functional and safe diver but never have time to get certified. I generally fish, fish and go back fishing. My buddies are into

[hr]
fishing and I think I may have to go that route. Gas at $3.50 makes eating fish expensive!

Those arent lobsters they dont have claws, those are sissy bugs. they cant fight back. (I know they are technicly lobsters) But they arent MAINE lobsters. maine lobsters can fight back.....

trust me they can fight back why do you think they call them "spiny" lobsters.... plus we don't use "sissy" traps to catch them, we literally dive down and pull them out of rocks and that is no picnic.

All depends on the depth you find them. Anything less than 20' I typically snorkel.
Am I the only one here who also does a little tropical collecting as well? I usually come back with 2-3 fish and a coral banded shrimp or 2. I still have a pistol shrimp that my son caught 5 years ago.

hey grouper You say you bring home tropicals, the other day I was looking at slurp guns, do you use them and id there a certain brand that i should look for.
every year i tell myself to get one and I never do. Good luck on wednesday if you are going, ill be out there bright and early. I will post later with pics to show everyone how i did

Spiny, this is what we use. I have never used a slurp gun. The nets work fine for me. If you watch a fish around his home, they have a pattern. Place the net in his path, the clear plastic is hard for them to see.
I'm not going down till August 8-13. You mentioned Coffin's Patch earlier. Marathon right?? Been on that reef many times before. IIRC that is a protected spot. Be careful.

yeah we go there for vacation... Im up here in brevard county for the rest of the year. We go out off the east coast in about 60 to 90 feet. I would never take anything off coffins, I have to much respect for that sight. but some of the ledges we dive on up here hold plenty of tropical fish so im gonna try that. thanks for the advice on the nets
