hello all. all of my fish are at a lfs in qt because they all got ich. they have been there since saturday. yesterday i went to go check up on them and they were all doing great! no more ich!. today i went back and my yellow tang has died. also they have 3 other fish (not mine) in that qt system that are also dead. i told them that my fish had died and they replied with "oh he was dead when i got here this morning." it was 5pm and my dead fish was still in the tank. he never took him out and i bet he still hasn't. should i be worried that all my fish are in that system with all those dead fish? they have ALOT of live rock in there sump it looks like 300+ pounds and i wanna say the qt system is about 6 10gal tanks. they are treating with malachite green, i cant name the store im sure they wouldn't want they're name being talked about like this. im not mad just a little worried.

First off malachite green wont kill ick in salt water, it for fresh water ick or external disease. The only way to kill ick in salt water is copper or hypo. If they have LR in with QT the rock will absorb the copper and make not work. If you want to save the fish you have left start up your own QT. If you are interested send my PM and I'll send you instruction on how I set mine up or look at the threads at the top of the disease form Beth has instruction on her set up.

Quinine sulfate (****** Pro) works wonders, esp. against some of the "resistant" strains of ******, and it's our preferred treatment if hypo fails. Some very sharp folks are also using chloroquine phosphate (used to treat malaria and amoebic disentary) to treat ******, altho we have never used it.

saxman ever use this stuff? An old aquarium guy told me it was a quinine base product.
I used it once long time ago, but to get it to work I had to double the dosage.

I'm sorry the LFS is using methylene blue. I tried hypo in my display tank due to me not having a qt system. I'm going to pm you and I will make my own qt system. I bought quick Cure but haven't tried it yet.

Mr. Limpid,
Yes, I've used it. IIRC, it contains formalin and malachite green, and is supposedly Zn-free. Not quinine-based that I've ever heard or read...
Pooty Tang,
Meth blue does nothing to treat ******, altho it's great for soothing burned gills from NH3 exposure.

Quick cure will not work with live rock in the tank, it will absorb the meds. And it will kill all inverts.

I was reading up on it, your right it didn't say anything about quinine saw the part about Zinc free. That shows can't trust everyone, especially the people who are trying to sell you stuff.

I used to use it in place of formalin in the past...it's sometimes tuff to get formalin in CA, as it's classified as a chemical carcinogen.
