long term power backup

i was just wondering would a deepcycle battery with a power inverter work to back up pumps if you know your power will be out? im just asking this because might get a hurricane in the later part of this week and i probibly wont be around to do anything with my tank does anyone think this would work and be safe? im sure if the power goes out itll be out for a few days if we get hit so i dont know if this would even hold out too long but all i would be running off it would be a emporer 300 maybe one small powerhead

I came up with a similar idea, only I used a 12v pump in parallel to the 120v. I like your idea better.
I would like to add a basic plug in appliance timer ( $10.00 ) at Home Depot to really,really extend the run time at set increments ( say, 30 min. on 30 min. off etc...) for extended periods. Days or more?
If anyone sees a problem with this idea, I would like to hear about it.

Tranquility, the only problem I see with that is that some pumps have a real problem with power being switched on and off. As long as you use pumps that are recommended for use with a wavemaker, this wouldn't be a problem. Some pumps (RIOS) can be stubborn to start at times.
