longnose hawkfish

I read that hawkfish will eat shrimp and small crabs. Yet I think I like the little guys, but not at the expense of my blood, skunk, and 3 peppermint shirmp. Most of my shrimp are about 2 1/2- 3 inches long. Can a longnose hawkfish eat them?

Well, I haven't owned a long nose yet but hope to get one soon. However I did do a search on this site plus did some reading on other sites about the long nose. I think that depending on the size of the fish will depend on if it will eat your shrimp. If you buy small one about 1 to 1 1/2 inch I don't think you have anything to worry about. They can get up to 5 inches in length and even when they are small their mouth can open wide. If you feed it well it shouldn't bother your shrimp. I'm not an expert, but I hope this is correct informaton that will help.

Thanks for the reply. I am not willing to lose my shrimp. Just like the way they all jump on my hand to eat.

depends on how big your shrimp are. My hawk nose eats the brine i feed it and does not bother my shrimp so good luck.

I have had a long nose now for about 2 years I think. He is in a tank with a cleaner shrimp and 4 peppermints. He never even looks at them.
