hello
as thw title says.. wich is hardier, longnose or the Heniochus Butterly(Heniochus acuminatus)
it will be in a 90 gal with various tankmates. i heard tht the henichous has a chance to become aggresive if he is cramped.?
i like the longnose for awhile but noticed the diet, clam. i dont like the idea so found the othr and saw it had more than clam and thought i would feed him what the lfs was.

I have a LNB and he has been doing great for over two weeks now in a 55 gal. He has been eating Formula 2, Mysis shrimp, and spirulina enriched brine shrimp. He will even eat flake food if it falls from the surface. Only took 12 hrs before he was eating hardy. I watched this fish at the LFS for a few days and saw him eat Formula 2 each time so I knew he was eating well.
In my tank I have 1 maroon tomato clown, 1 green chromis, and 2 yellowtail damsels (soon to be moving out when I catch them), along with a Cleaner Shrimp, Coral banded Shrimp and a purple urchin. I am not the best source on fish but can tell you how my specific one is doing.

Heniochus. Long Noses although not really considered hardy, are less fragile than most people say because they generally only thrive in a mature tank.

I never trust sites requirements, sometimes it goes by at the size they are when they sell them. Water quality wise the rule of thumb is 1" of fish per 5 gallons water. That varies greatly by metabolism etc.. I also use adult fish size less than 3/4 of the smallest dimension of the tank footprint.
Heres a consideration; Henis are schooling fish, their natural defense is to escape far and quickly. As far as they are concerned, a 125 is 50% bigger than a 90, becasue of how far they can dart.

I have a happy pair of H. acuminatus.
Robert Fenner's book recommends them over the long nose.
You can train them on all kinds of food. They prefer to be in groups....but you may not have the room.
Fat, happy, alert.
See what your LFS feeds them.
I have mine in a reef and they don't pick at anything other than LR....no polyps, etc that I've ever seen.

Actually, it is about 30% bigger by volume, but if you are talking 6ft vs. 4ft.....
Yes, the henis choose flight over flight.

how far they can dart is based on 4ft vs 6ft.

ok when i find one tht is healthy i am going to make sure i find him so there is only one in the tank so i dont have to tear them appart from eachother.
so the 9 0 if 4 feet.
i am going to find a rather smaller speciment of henichous
and to make sure he is healthy ill c what they are feeding him and buy it as long as he has been there
long enough and been eating
