what i am saying is to put the magpump in the 5 gallon bucket and use it to pump the water into the tank.

I was about ready to mention this when I saw you thought of it on your own. Doesn't seem like it would be to hard to do. Good luck, and thanks so much for all you do to serve this country. We are all in debt to your service and words just can't say how thankful I am. God Bless and keep you safe.

Oops.
That makes sense. She can siphon out of the container, into a bucket and use the pump to get it into the tank. Boy, a sump/fuge is sounder better and better. When doing a water change with a sump, is it just a matter of taking water out of the sump and replacing it from there instead of the dispaly tank?

I'm the one that should be thankful for your support. It makes it all worth it. Believe me!

Props to the Marines. I was in Iraq and it seemed like the marines got the worst spots. Good luck on your next deployment. Go Devil Dogs

We wouldn't have it any other way!
Thanks for your words of encouragement. Ever been to TQ? Right smack dab in the middle of Fallujah, Ramadi and Habbaniyah. Lovely place it is.

No, thank you for your support! I hope my tank isn't KIA. My favorite quote: "Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they've made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem." (credited to President Reagan, but original author unkown) Maybe that's why I keep going back. I've been in 23 years now. Again, thanks.

Were all here for you, and your sacrifice is something not many could do. BTW try to catch a scorpion, and make it a pet! :0 LOL, JKJK Would sound odd if we heard a news story on NPR "Solier seriously injured while trying to catch a scorpion" :) Just trying to lighten the mood.

May sound funny but that's exactly what we did. Each unit would catch the biggest, baddest creature they could find and we'd have Friday night UFC. Can you believe we had a beetle beat up on a scorpion??? Understand that war is 99% boredom. Maybe 90% these days, but you catch my drift. Mascots are always great moral booster. Lots of stray dogs too. No, they don't participate in UFC.
Anyway, hope my tank doesn't get to the 911 point where my wife and kid have to ask for help, but it's reassuring knowing you all are there! Thanks.

Yeah, I dive quite a bit in the summertime...'sconsin isn't exactly known for it's exotic wintertime dive spots. I took advanced OW and on to rescue diver. I'm toying with the idea of doing the diver master course, but we'll see.
We also try to get a diving vacation in every year, usually in March. We'll be spending the first week in March in Cozumel (again). This will be my 5th time there. Last year diving there was great, but kinda sad after Wilma. I've heard that the reefs are coming back great though, and there have even been seahorse sightings...yay!!

1Knight, thanks for serving.
The water changes should be no problem. Do like was suggested and get a mag pump (they can run out of water). Go to your nearest Home Depot (etc.) and buy some hose to fit onto it. Try it, but the Mag might be able to syphon water through a hose stuck all the way down into the container. If not you'll have to first dump it into a bucket and syphon from there.
Make sure all the plugs on the tank are in GFI protected outlets so that there can't be an electricity hazard for your little girl, and be sure to show your wife how to reset the plug and how to isolate the problem if the plugs trip.

I am with the others in Thanking you and all the troops protecting our Great land!
I have used a maxi 1200 hose on each end to siphon out of container to the tank, saves a whole lot of heavy lifting!
I have now made a water station to make things even easier, darn can't find the link!just hook a garden hose and open the valve! Works great!

Hey Lisa,
Gotta love diving. Sounds like you've got quite a bit of experience. Dive Master sounds like the ticket! A litte out of the ordinary for someone in Wisconsin.
They have a big dive club where you are? Never been to Cozumel. When we deploy on ship, we do get a chance to visit a few ports while transiting so I got REALLY spoiled and don't dive in CA anymore. Too cold, too dark. Been to Hawaii (got certified there) Thailand, South Africa (Seychelles), Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, and Bali. Can you tell I hate the cold? Shorties is about all you need. Can't beat the vis, variety, and bathwater temps!!! That's what I call diving. A 3mm shortie is all you need if anything. Wish I could take some of those fish home. Oh, forgot. The prices are incredible! Twenty-five bucks for a 2 tank dive was about the norm. Did 3 dives in one day for $35 in Thailand that included lunch, wreck/deep dive, drift dive, and a wall dive! Saw my first seahorse there. Would love to see a shark, but not the great white or tiger variety, though. I'm praying that we stop in Australia this time out. Anyway, best of luck on becoming Dive Master. Lots of responsibility there. Take care.

GFCI installed today, everyone!!
Bought one from Lowes and now I feel much safer. Your job is done, Journeyman. I owe ya!

Mag pump worked great!!! Next project is a closed loop with SCWD wavemaker. Anyone have any experience with it? Kind of took what I learned from some threads and used the one on melevsreef.com (with a little mod). Symon, great setup.
I don't quite have the room where my tank is located, but you gave me an idea. I'm going to put a valve in my closed loop so my kid won't have to siphon the water out. Next tank, i'll position it were I can put a water station!

LOL, ya.. let's see:
You're serving in the military overseas in a combat zone, I mention to install GFI's.. somehow I still think I'm in your debt.
Seriously, though. If you want make your daughter an account on here (or let her use yours). We'll do what we can to help her out.
PS: When did you dive Bali? I was on the Great Barrier Reef this August and the water was dang cold... (73 or so)

Hey Gina
And thank you so much for your support. You know, those of us in the military have the fortunate opportunity to see how others live and the struggles they face day to day just to survive. Like you, we can truly appreciate the freedoms we have here in the good 'ol US of A. Sadly, it really seems that there are many who do not truly appreciate the freedoms we have and take our way of life for granted and even try to undermine those freedoms. If only they could see what we see...Can you imagine not having the time or even the freedom to have you own saltwater tank? :scared: :scared: :scared: Truly an honor to serve. Believe it or not, it's worth the crappy pay. Thanks again and God bless.

I say that because you may have saved my life and/or my daughters life.
I'll get her an account. Just don't tell her to order a $200 fish!

Let's see. Bali. I've been deployed 9 times so far...    '97. Before the bombings. (I remember many nights in that bar, by the way)
I'm psyched about the possibility of diving Australia, but 73 sounds cold! Come to think of it, i'll be there this summer....which is their winter
AHHHHH! Been to Darwin (salt water crocadiles kept me out of the water), Perth/Freemantle (too busy partying) and Sidney (not certified then). Did you dive the reef, or visit? I just may visit if the water is too cold. Yeah! I'm chicken!!!
