I'll get her an account. Just don't tell her to order a $200 fish!

Let's see. Bali. I've been deployed 9 times so far...    '97. Before the bombings. (I remember many nights in that bar, by the way)
I'm psyched about the possibility of diving Australia, but 73 sounds cold! Come to think of it, i'll be there this summer....which is their winter
AHHHHH! Been to Darwin (salt water crocadiles kept me out of the water), Perth/Freemantle (too busy partying) and Sidney (not certified then). Did you dive the reef, or visit? I just may visit if the water is too cold. Yeah! I'm chicken!!!
I'm glad to have helped.
Ya, I've been diving out of Port Douglas twice now, both in August (03 and 06). 03 it was 75-76. Cool but acceptable in a full 3mm. 73 was on the verge of being too cold for me.
Thailand sounds great. I think we are going to try there in 08. 07 trip is to Palau.
Diving in Auastralia is great, but expensive. For 3 dives it was $200 (ride out ot the reef from Port takes a bit over an hour). Definitely hoping next time there to do the live aboard thing and go into the Coral Sea.
The Caribbean is close and warm (just got back from Bonaire where the water temp was 81-83) but you can't beat the Pacific's underwater creatures and visibility.
Edit: And ya, Crocs... Seriously never seen a more scary animal in the wild that a large Croc.

Agree. Seventy-five would be minimum for me. I like my 3mm full. Dove through a bunch of tiny jelly fish in the Gulf of Oman and I was the only one who didn't get stung!!

Australia is definitely and expensive place. Dollar not worth much there. But I think diving the GBR would be worth the cash. Didn't run into any Great White's, did ya? :scared:
PALAU!!! WOW!!! Now that's one hell of a dive spot. Tons of WWII wrecks. I think they have the most of all the wreck dive sites. Great Marine battle, btw. Maybe I can get the ships captain to make a stop, for historical reasons or something.
Never dove Caribbean but would love to. Maybe we can have a small war there so I can get deployed there!
I think i'll make that one a regular dive trip for summer '08. What's the best time of year to avoid the hurricanes?
Just out of curiousity, what's your certification? Lisa is shooting for Dive Master. I'm not as ambitious. More recreational for me, but who knows. If I move to warm waters, I would definitely shoot for the same.

Like you, we can truly appreciate the freedoms we have here in the good 'ol US of A. Sadly, it really seems that there are many who do not truly appreciate the freedoms we have and take our way of life for granted and even try to undermine those freedoms. If only they could see what we see...Can you imagine not having the time or even the freedom to have you own saltwater tank? :scared: :scared: :scared: Truly an honor to serve. Believe it or not, it's worth the crappy pay. Thanks again and God bless.
no i couldnt imagine, not being able to have a saltwater aquarium,,,i have wanted one for many years, and i just got me one this last summer, and i am enjoying it so much....FREEDOM ROCKS!!!!!! have a great night....

Ya, the GBR is amazing. Saw a couple of White Tip Reef Sharks but no Great Whites. Supposedly GWs aren't seen very often that far north. Don't want to see a Great White, but am looking forward to diving with sharks in the Bahamas.
I'm Advanced certified, working towards Dive Master. I'm career surfing right now so just trying to add to my resume. Haven't dove deeper than 115. Not really interested in tech diving or decompression diving. I think cave and wreck diving will be cool though.
Hurricanes; really depends are where you are... Bonaire is far enough south that it never gets hit (although high seas in 2000 or so damaged northern reefs) otherwise Mid-June to mid Oct. or so could have storms in the Gulf.
Looking forward to Palau. Both of my Grandfathers served in the Pacific theatre in WWII. Neither ever wanted to talk about what they went through, but from a young age I've studied that theatre. Truk Lagoon is another spot I want to dive.

Thanks, Brad. Really appreciate it. I'll shoot you an e-mail. If things get out of hand it's nice knowing your service is available. My local LFS doesn't have that service and I assumed it was out of the ordinary.

1Knight,
I don't have much to say about your topic, but I just wanted to thank you for all the sacrifices you make to keep my family and I safe. My uncle was a Marine in Vietnam and I know how your family feels. Know that you and the other guys and girls that are fighting for us are appreciated. I will keep you in my prayers!

1knight164 Did you put a grounding probe to go with that GFCI? Another safety device (if you haven't already). Thanks for serving our country even though most take your sacrifices for granted and whine etc. And our government hardly takes care of you guys properly. God Bless May you be safe and your aim true. But let it be unneeded.

I've done one wreck. Not quite the Titanic and never entered the ******** of the ship but never the less, a wreck. And cave diving puts chills in my spine. I think it would be cool to do and see, but that chance of getting stuck and running out of air! I rather get shot than suffocate! I guess it's the danger that makes it exciting. Adrenaline junky! And you're right. Truk Lagoon is famous for wreck dives. Carabbean June through October...got it. I guess dive master is the ticket! Got an aquarium question for you. Can you catch your own swf and ship them home? Thanks for everything.

Vietnam Marines! Now that's a Marine's Marine! My hats off to your Uncle. Don't know what I would've done if I would've had the same homecoming they received. You know, we had that war won!!! If only they had the support we have today!
Thanks for your prayers
