Australia is definitely and expensive place. Dollar not worth much there. But I think diving the GBR would be worth the cash. Didn't run into any Great White's, did ya? :scared:
PALAU!!! WOW!!! Now that's one hell of a dive spot. Tons of WWII wrecks. I think they have the most of all the wreck dive sites. Great Marine battle, btw. Maybe I can get the ships captain to make a stop, for historical reasons or something.
Never dove Caribbean but would love to. Maybe we can have a small war there so I can get deployed there!
I think i'll make that one a regular dive trip for summer '08. What's the best time of year to avoid the hurricanes?
Just out of curiousity, what's your certification? Lisa is shooting for Dive Master. I'm not as ambitious. More recreational for me, but who knows. If I move to warm waters, I would definitely shoot for the same.
Ya, the GBR is amazing. Saw a couple of White Tip Reef Sharks but no Great Whites. Supposedly GWs aren't seen very often that far north. Don't want to see a Great White, but am looking forward to diving with sharks in the Bahamas.
I'm Advanced certified, working towards Dive Master. I'm career surfing right now so just trying to add to my resume. Haven't dove deeper than 115. Not really interested in tech diving or decompression diving. I think cave and wreck diving will be cool though.
Hurricanes; really depends are where you are... Bonaire is far enough south that it never gets hit (although high seas in 2000 or so damaged northern reefs) otherwise Mid-June to mid Oct. or so could have storms in the Gulf.
Looking forward to Palau. Both of my Grandfathers served in the Pacific theatre in WWII. Neither ever wanted to talk about what they went through, but from a young age I've studied that theatre. Truk Lagoon is another spot I want to dive.
