Look What I Got!!!

That durned thing did precisely what it was designed to do, too; the more I moved in the water, the deeper it embedded itself in my muscle...'till it came all the way through to the other side!!

We didn't know what was biting me 'till my Husband pulled me ashore - I was afraid it was a fish that'd make off with a chunk of my foot. I was actually relieved to see that it was a hook (infection from animal bites are often harder to deal with than cuts from rusty objects). It was attached to a mass of wire wrapped around what was about 2lbs of kelp and other detritous - and the waves were wipping it around like crazy...dragging my foot along with it. A new kind of pain.

But my man found a fisherman and borrowed his knife so we could cut me free - by the time we got through the wire, the hook had worked itself out. (which was a bit worrisome - ur not supposed to remove thing from puncture wounds 'cuz things that go 'in' make a whole lotta mess coming 'out.')
Thank g-d the hospital was only 3 blocks way. My Husband stopped the first pple he saw and got directions. They were really great - turns out that 90% of their summer emergency cases are fishooks and other foreign bodies beind loged into people's various body parts.
The docs there still can't figure out how I managed not to break the barb off inside my foot! It's a real blessing though, 'cuz that woulda caused a whole lotta mess.
But I'm ok now - they gave me a 'just-in-case" tetnis booster and a good cleaning (more new pain). I'm also on anti-biotics for a week - salt water cleans things, but polutants and bacteria in the ocean do not. LoL.

I'm just happy as a clam..and my Husband, well, he's my knight in shinning...swim trunks!

Hhhm, it's up for debate, but I'm pretty sure I'm not THAT dumb

We were ACTUALLY in Long Branch - and the hospital, by the by, was Monmouth emergency ward. They were AMAZING and really prompt. ... just in case anyone in that area needs help!
They even called me this morning to see how I was doing!!

Good to hear you are OK. I had an incident like that once but I was windsurfing in a lake in Ohio. Jumped off my board and stepped on a dozen or so Zebra Muscles. My foot was a bloody mess. There was so much blood that people on shore could see the blood running all over my board and thought that I had been bit by a Muskie. I started screaming shark and the people started to get out of the water. LMAO... ANyway, the pain wasnt too bad and after about 40 odd stitches I was back home chillin with a set of crutches and no windsurfing for the rest of the summer. I think the most painful part was the novicane the pumped into my foot. Oh yeah and the hospital bill of around 1500 dollars. Just a note I havent been windsurfing without water shoes since. Good luck with the wound and I hope it doesnt get infected...

That looks like a 5 O' Mustad sailfish rig! Hey, if I were to have a hook in my foot, that would be it! You should be proud it wasn't a little trout rig. Just think about that baby stuck through your cheek!!
You should frame it! :hilarious

LoL, no, novicaine doesn't make you loopy...it makes the area to which it's administered VERY NUMB. ...or at least... it's SUPPOSED to.
as for a scar, not really... unfortunately. u'd think from such an ordeal I could at least get a kewl scar.

OW!
I remember when I was young, I was at my best friends house, and this older kid from the neighborhood that lived next door to me came over, and was giving us crap. He gave me the "airplane", spinning me around. Then let go and I flew head-first into the corner of my friends woodpile LOL. Split the right side of my head open. Got a kewl little scar from that, little patch where my hair wont grow lol.
