Looking for info on Dendrophylia

My LFS has a very nice frag of Dendrophylia. It looks like sun coral but I can find much info on Dendrophylia. It super bright orange and there are about 10 polyps. I was told it was a rare piece. I'm looking for the care requirements and the hardiness level. Thanks.

Family Dendrophylliidae Some are hardy, most are not. Most species lack zooxanthellae ( photosynthetic endosymbiotic algae ). Several look like the Sun corals, Genus Tubastrea
IMO, treat it like a Sun Polyp and feed each polyp.

I think it's right. I can't find anywhere selling it so I am not sure if the price is right though the LFS said it was a steal. It has 10 heads and is going for $80. Does that seem legit?

Well, thats seems like alot for something thats hard for most people to keep, but up to you. LFS will say anything you know.

$80 is a steal; five polyps usually go for $150-$200. Feed each polyp mysis once or twice a week and keep water quality perfect.

Columbus. I used to go to Savannah all the time especially for Saint Patties!

Well I ended up getting it. I guess it was pretty hungry because I was able to get 7 of the 10 heads to open up quickly and it was taking all the mysis I could give it. Now I just need to make sure I have it in a proper location. I went by the captive care requirements in my reef corals book. Basically feed it at least 2 - 3 times a week, good water movement and the lighting really doesn't matter since it can adapt to most lighting situations. I have it on a ledge about 6 inches off the sand. Hopefully it will do well. I have read that the lack of success in most part is due to lack of feeding so I will make sure it's fed.

Awesome MRDC! 10 heads for $80 is a great deal! Especially if you start fragging it you can earn some big money. Post a pic if you are able!
:joy:

Ha Ha ... yep it does sound like a nasty disease!
Well I did the bottle method of feeding last night meaning I placed a open ended bottle over it so I could feed. It ate really well and the shrimps were going crazy trying to get to the food. I have a few hermits that like to pick at it too much so I removed them and dropped them in the overflow box. The emerald likes to mess with it also but it doesn't seem to be harming anything.
