I want to add some more rock to my tank but don't want to add LR and cause a mini cycle. Anyone here know or have some "dead" rock???
I am in the New York area.
Thanks:)

Baserock is what you are looking for. You should look for araonite rocks or tufa rocks. One example of great looking base rock is the 50 pounds that I purchased on ----, the rock came from the ocean from when they built a new harbor or docks. Look on ---- and use the words base rock or baserock.
Your lfs should also carry base rock.

Tom,
Can you email me the details on who you purchased your base rock from on ----?? I just bought 50 lbs from someone there too. It's still on it's way, but I want feed back from another customer. Is it small pieces? In good shape?
Thanks!

I just dont like to have to bid on things, if I want something I want to be able to buy it without waiting.

Here is what I got from ----. The largest rock is about 13 or14 inches across. I used a 1/8 inch drill bit, a long one, and drilled holes in it across one side, then took a masonry chisle and gave it a few whacks with a 2 pound hammer, didn't wind up with very much rubble at all cracked it pretty clean.

Here is a shot of that same large rock split in half with some of the other pieces. Tank is only about 8 months old now. Started with dead base rock and dead sand.

Hmmm that digi shot isn't showing the true color of the rock which is a rather dark green tanish color right now with little flecks of coralline. Looks better in that pic then it does in my tank.

I live in New York and have a 100lbs of base Rock
including some coral.
The base rock is called lace rock and is very good. It gives the tank a nice natural look with caves for the fish and critters
I will sell it to you for 100.
You can e-mail to Magyk@optonline.net
