We'll be moving in to our new house in 6-8 weeks. I've got a 215g built-in going in and I don't really want to pay the LFS $750 to install it if I don't have to. I am willing to do it myself but don't know where to start - especially with the plumbing. Although I have some freshwater experience, this is my my first SW tank. If anyone is willing to at least draw a diagram or even come out to the house for an afternoon, I'd appreciate it. I don't know if this asking a lot or not, but like I said, $750 is a lot of lettuce.

Hi there,
Well, although $750.00 seems like alot of money, the peace of mind that comes from a professional installation is worth it IMO. If nothing else, you have the LFS to help you out if something goes wrong with their installation. Each gallon of water weighs 8 pounds. Add in live rock, l/s or c/c, plus equipment, and that's ALOT of weight. 215 gallons of spilled water will equal a couple of inches of standing water if something goes wrong. Better to be safe than sorry. That's just my opinion. I tend to err on the side of caution. Best of luck~! :)

try doing a search on this site to see if you can find anything? maybe asking squid for some advice?, there are a lot of knowledgeable people on this web site.
if your handy with wood you could also do a search on google on building aquarium stands. there is a lot of help there.
good luck

I was smart enought buy a pre-made stand from the tank manufacturer. Actually, the manufacturer won't warranty the tank unless you buy their stand. The LFS is going to level the stand and install the tank itself. But I am interested in doing everything else - i.e. the plumbing, lighting, etc.

Bloodhound, still need help with your tank? I have the same set-up and situation. New house and new tank and new to salt. I am willing to come out and take a look and you are welcome to come out to my place to see how they installed.
I paid $300 to have my 215 set-up. There is nothing like having piece of mind at the end of the day. Keep in mind that I have "0" clue about wood but paid very close attention to the details.
If that tank cracks it will cost you a lot more then $700. Look at the $700 as an insurance policy......

Well it's gonna cost more than $750 to fly me out for the afternoon...

But if your "handy" and want to try the DIY route, we have a couple weeks to "draw some pictures" and get you a parts list...

Well, Squidd, seeing that I work for an airline, it would cost a lot less than $750 to fly you down.

Fishy, I might take you up on that offer. However, it may not be for a few weeks because I have to finish the house in 14 days. Thanks for the offer. I also found a store in Denton (which is much closer to the new house) that charges $75/hr - compared to $150/hr.
