looking for white

i wne to home depot last night to find some sand for my new 125. they didn't have southdown but they did have quickrete(sp) and play sand. the only problem was that there wasn't any white sand, all of the choices were tan to brown. i've seen white sand in some pics on this board so where did you guys get it? and is quickrete as good as southdown? could you post a pic of what the bag looks like if possible?

quikrete is nowhere near as good as SD. Quikrete is a silica based sand while SD is like the sand your LFS carries. It is an aragonite sand found in the caribean or so they say. You can use quikrete if you want. One way to test the sand is to put some in a glass of vinegar and if it turs white its good to go.

i might take you up on that. i have to check a few other HD here. if i cant find any i might be willing to pay shipping (driving 10 hours round trip is a little much). how much are you offering to sell? i need 2-3 bags.

I could sell you 2-3 bags, but i think shipping would make it cheaper for you to buy some of the live sand that is in the bags... each bag weighs 50 pounds... you might want to look into buying the bags of live sand.....
let me know though- i am willing to ship....

What! I am not addicted! How DARE you accuse me of being addicted?!?! Just becuase I kiss my tank goodbye before my wife and daughter, and watch it from work on the webcam, and get up 3 times a night to look at the night critters and stop at every fish store on the way home from anywhere as long as it doesn't take me more than an hour out of the way and.....
