lost my 3rd clown trig in a month

Yep im setting up my qt tank right now
a few ?s though
i plan just to use a bio wheel eclpise built in hood system with car bon and no skimmer is that ok??
and should i use some kind of sponge or filter media to prevent ammonia
the tank is a 29-30 gl or what ever
i used water from my display tank with the ick or what ever it was that killed the trigger!!
right before he died his mouth started turning whit and all the spots on his tail were gone though so i think it was ick, but this one lasted longer thanthe other 2
since im setting up a display tank how long before i can go get another clown trigger??
my display tank has been up for about 3 months
any advice on filtration and treatment of my other fish will be appreciated
all i have in there now is a fox face a jewel damsel a hum bug damsel and a yellow tail damsel
im thinking of getting rid of all the damsels!!!!

For the love of god, stop buying baby clown triggers, please!!! Maybe somehow you haven't grasped what "high mortality" means. Buy a subadult with a chance of survival but not until you qt the fish you have and get the disease out of your tank.

Is the display tank a reef tank or fish only with no live rock?
You will have to determine if it was Ick that killed him so you will know how to treat the disease.

If there is disease in your display then you will want to get this qt set up quickly. Use the filter media from your display. Add a sponge filter or two to the display in a high flow area for a week to gather bacteria. I would not add any new fish for quite awhile. How big is your display tank? Your tank is new and needs time to mature. After you rid your display of ich, be sure to QT all new purchases to prevent this from happening again.

my dt tank is a 125 gl fo wlr and sand
im pretty sure it was ick but im not gonna treat for it im just gonna hypo salintiy my qt tank and my fox face
the rest of the fish i will probably sell
im sure it was ick, and if i hypo my qt tank wont that kill off parasites like ick, and other stuff!!!????

well my qt tank is up and running now, this weekend im gonna add a cup of sand from my display, and the sponge that i put in my qt tank.
i think ill like having it around, i now have 4 tanks in 1 room they kinda wrap around the room
here is a video of my 30 gallon 125 gl 75 gl and 40 gl.
i guess i love fish, oh and thats not including my 45 and 30 gl sumps on my 125 and my 75 gallon
any suggestions would be appreciated
all im using for filtering is a bio wheel a ammonia sponge, and some carbon in a tie up sock bag thingy that you put the live carbon particles in
and like a 30 gallon power head and a digital thermometer
thats about all i still have to get something to cover the bottom of the tank and the back, and some hiding places made of pve or some kind of ceramic tile

Are you going to leave the QT tank setup all the time? If not you should.
I would get some non live Base Rock for your QT so it looks nice and gives hiding spots for your fish. Since we know Hypo kills bacteria on the live rock there is no since in paying extra for that.
Also I would keep a peaceful hearty fish to keep in the QT tank all the time to keep Biological Filter going after treated fish head back to the DT.
Whatever you do I would buy a UV Sterilizer for main tank and leave it fishless for 4 weeks. Take all your fish out of the tank and Hypo them all, even if you sell them. I wouldn't feel right selling fish knowing they have ICK. Plus the stress of removing them and selling them will probably kill them in their current state.
Ick in your DT will die if it does not have a fish host to infect but It can live for up to a month in a fishless tank before it dies off completely. So keeping your display tank fishless for 4 weeks is the only way to be 100 % rid of the pests without Hypo. Since you don't want to kill your bacteria in main tank the fishless option is the only way to rid ICK for DT.
Remember when all your current fish are out of QT and HYPO in 4 weeks and they are healthy again go a head and sell them but make sure you QT all new fish for 4 weeks before going back to DT. Much easier to treat fish in a QT.

what kind of fish would you reccommend for the qt tank for life?
and would i leave him in there even during hypo and ick or any other kind of treat ments???

I agree with David24, with some exceptions. I don't like to use any kind of rock in a qt since it oculd, at any time, have to become a hospital tank. then, any medications you add tend to bind to the rock, reducing the concentration to below that that is effective. You can make an attractive "reef" out of PVC piping that has plenty of holes and caves for fish while avoiding the problems of rock in the tank. As for fish in the qt, I personally don't like to have any since sooner or later you will need to hypo or treat, and repeated treatments are stressful. But that's just my opinion. Instead of fish, you can keep the qt bacteria alive by feeding them with small amounts of fish food or (my choice) adding ammonium chloride periodically. Either way works.

and how soon after i qt all my fish that i have now and after my display tank sits for about 8 weeks can i get another baby trigger???
could i get 1 now and put it in the qt tank if i set up 2 qt tanks and put it in 1 by his self and leave him in there 4 10 weeks??
while i let the display tank icks prob settle???
i really do believe the last clown would have made it had it not have been for the ick, it was waaaayyy healtier than the 1st 2 and it was just sooo full of personality!!
it was doing great til it started rolling over like a dawg!!, and looking like it was coughing
i hope it wasnt painful to him
i truly loved and looked forward to coming home to that fish

It is excellent that you are setting up the quarantine tank finally, but I would stop trying to keep the juvenile clown trigger. If you truly loved fish, you would realize that they are a very very difficult fish to keep in their juvenile stage. I have dealt with them for years. Out of all the people who have tried to keep them that I have talked with, there was only ONE that was able to.

yeah its gonna be a real challenge to try this one last time
if i dont make it this time ill eat my hat!!!!
i know the trick the first step is that you dont have the store catch him or her with a net have them use a bucket thingy, and put him straight in a qt tank, but before you go by it see what the stores salinity levels are and im gonna try to get them about at that also
then hypo and feed him garlic foods and boost his immune system
Boy i wish i would have did this from the start!!!!

i know earlier you said you were gonna sell the other fish, and i dono if you have changed your mind, or you are still going to sell them or you have already been informed (i havent read the thread to thuroughly [sp?] but do NOT sell anyone sick fish

Just take them back to the pet store if you really cannot find anyone who wants them. Many stores will even you give a little bit of store credit, as well.
