Puppy is a relative term. This was my wife's 11 year old shih tzu named daisy. She was a rescue dog, so we didn't know her extended history, but we had her for about a year and a half before she left us. A sweet old dog, about as "senior" of a dog as you can get. The vet recently diagnosed her with some kind of pancreas problem, apparently if she eats food with fat in it, her stomach takes that fat and turns it into soap and it poisons her. The only thing we could do to extend life was to feed her a non fat diet, which we did. But the vet said that it will eventually take her and we had anywhere from 2 months to 2 years, it ended up being 5 weeks. My wife was devastated, she was incredibly close to Daisy. As a newlywed and 23 year old who has mostly lived alone after college, I've never had to deal with the death of a dog, disposing of the body and stuff, it was horrible.
Not really the welcome to adulthood I wanted.
