Loud overflow. Need help please.

My amiracle overflow is loud. The siphon works great and that garggle needs to stop. My mag 5 return pump could also need some quieting. This is placed in a 10 gal on a piece of eggcrate. There is no LS just LR. Any ideas on how to make this quieter. Thanks.

Install a durso stand pipe. I was a skeptic but man it works. Also try getting a big piece of sterilized rubber from a medical supply store. Cut out a place to put the mag in it. I read a thread were somebody did the same thing with a rubber shoe sole that they had ran through a dishwasher, cheaper but would make me a little nervous

I'll try the durso. Thanks. My plumbing is also pvs. It has 1 tee and 2 elbows. Are these just noisy pumps? Thanks again.

Do a search for all post by me. I posted a thread a month or soago with 4 or 5 different ways to quiet or setup's down. My entire 180 setup is so quiet, I can hear my rabbit sneeze now.
Oh yeah, the shoe sole is still in there and working great. It's under a mag 24 and all I hear is a little water flow in the pvc.

Were'nt you a little nervouse putting an old shoe sole in your tank? I'm probably just over paranoid, and wasted 15 bucks on a big piece of rubber.

If you dont want to build a stand pipe you can make a lid for out of a piece a acrylic. I had the same problem, but b4 i built a stand pipe I put a acrylic over the top and it stoped the noice. So I cut it to fit better and that was it, the whole process to 10 min.n HTH:D :D

Yeah a little. but for it's size (about 1"x 1") and the fact that it was cleaned well (boiled for 5 min in saltwater, not a dishwasher)I just decieded why not. After all, there are tires in almost every lake. Have not had anything die related to it. Just a live rock problem that started befor I did this.
Anyway, did it work for you?
I also have a lid, but the stand pipe was 10 times more effective and only 30 min to make a double 1". Well worth the time.

Yeah I actually got the idea for the rubber from your old post, and had my wife(a medical supplies buyer) pick up the sterile rubber. It's amazing the things she could get for this hobby, sterile syringes, I.V drip lines, wide guage syringes for applying weld-on to acrylic etc....
