My standpipe isnt the problem it when it hits the sump. It sounds like a waterfall. Its 1000 times louder(120g) than my 54g. I just filled it with water yesterday for the water/leak test. Both the overflow and return are straight no restrictions. Are they all this loud or am I missing something?

shove a piece of filter material under it, or extend the pipe so that is is under water.

they make those bags you can put over it to break up the water. Its a filter of some sort. Do you have a hose that connects to the over flow underneath? You can put that directly into the sump. No noise.

It is underwater. It only has one, 1" pipe. From the bulk head I have a 1" ID hose connect to a 1" valve. This setup is in the basement so its not to bad but it just seems crazy loud. The only thing I hear from my 54g is the fan on the mh lights.

Yea I agree, not seeing the design, but a big ball of good old filter floss may be the best bet.
