LOUD Sump! Please Help

The water flows from the PVC over onto a filter pad then drops into the actual sump. The noise is coming from the drop. Part of it is because I removed the bioballs that the water would fall onto.

I was thinking about doing that but the area where the bio balls (or lr rubble) is never submerged so Im not sure if the rock will stay live. I also had an idea for a mini fuge in that area of the sump. The bioballs were sitting on this plastic grate. I turned the grate 90 degrees so its blocking off the water entrance section of the sump and the section with the protein skimmer. Now that this area is divided I can turn it into a fuge. The grate will still allow water flow but would also keep the rock, cheato, and everything else from drifting around in the sump. To solve the waterfall noise I was thinking about somehow adding in an extra filter pad where the bioballs would be right about the fuge area.

I also have the same problem with the same sump set up. I removed the bio balls and replaced with rubble, but still have a VERY loud sound. I have not filled the compartment where the bio balls used to be completely full of rubble, so maybe that would help. Would it be helpful to replace the intial tubbing with a durso mod? or would this be a waist of time.

Well I solved the waterfall sound with no problem. Just added another filter pad section. But now that tube is gurgling again!!!
How do I burp the line to get the air out of it if thats the problem?

I turned the pipe in the sump where the water first comes in sideways, so the slits are facing the sides instead of where the water goes in the sump, and it made a HUGE difference. Its 95% more quite.

Thanks I might try that. Does anyone know how to burp the line though like ifirefight mentioned before?

Kevin, Im saying try to get any air out of the line...Like if you took a glass, held it upsidedown, then put it underwater. It would hold air, until you tilted it to let the air out. IF there is air in your line,It will want to go UP. My suggestion is to make the tubing go downhill like stated. The way you have the U in the tube...It is gonna trap a ton of air.

DITTO! It'ds going to keep collecting air with very much slack in it. You'll have to burp it all the time the way it is. Replace the line with spa flex thats smooth. without much slack in it. Whats the worst that can happen? You'll have to put the currogated stuff back?
Waste about 20 bucks?
