Low Light Mushrooms

I forgot what color mushrooms require low light. I was wondering because I have a FOLR tank and wanted to add some mushrooms. I currently have 50 watts of light for a 50g tank, and I know there are mushrooms that require very low amounts of light.

I've learned from personal experience that the darker the color, the lower the light needed for mushrooms. I have a 30gal and only run to 36" NO's with no problem. The green flourescents need to be high in the tank along with the lighter pink ones. Darker green ones and striped blue ones in the middle and the deep red and dark blues on the bottom. The red ones glow like an electric rose under actinics. Very cool! Hope this helps.

The only mushrooms that reach out in my tank are the crowded rocks. It seems that they take turns being on top since they overlap so much. My star polyps have already attached to neighboring rocks after 1 month of being in the tank. My LFS has a low light tank on the counter with 3 NO strips on it and I buy most of my soft corals from that tank. I can really tell the difference when I buy a coral that was under MH lights, they take a day or 2 to open and about a week to really settle in. :( I'll upgrade lights eventually, but this being my first successful tank, I'll hold off for at least a year when I actually start thinking about hard corals. Fluorescents are great if the newbie is well read and has a VERY helpful LFS. Everybody should own a copy of "Natural Reef Aquariums" by John H. Tullock!!!! :D
