Low Salt & Water change?

:help:
So I'm fairly green when it comes to saltwater aquariums. I've had mine since August. In the beginning it took me a while to get the tank going but once started, it's been going great. It's a 6 gallon eclipse housing a percula, a star fish and a few hermit crabs.
I was wondering what are the basics for monthly water changes?
I was also wondering about how much salt to add when my sea test is measuring at 1.018 1/2 ?
Any helps is a appreciated! :)

Welcome to the board:)
Your salinity is a little low, best bet would be to pre mix water and salt in a rubbermaid container, put a heater and a small powerhead for mixing bring temp to the same as tank, then add salt to required salinity level. Allow water to sit for 24 hours then test again if all is good then do a water change. Just make sure you top up the tank daily with fresh unsalted water for evaporation. With a small tank evaporation will change the salinity drasticly which is not good. Remember water evaporates but salt does not.

You could just top off with salt water for a while until it brings it up to about 1.022 or so and then top off with fresh water.

What happened was that I cleaned the the tank using a cyphen. I lost about 2 gallons of water so I added two new gallons with salt. It was just done within the last 24 hours ... do I have to wait some more time before testing the water again? Or is it not going to change? I can't top it off because it's alread full lol
