Lower Lighting

imo, no. even the lower lighting demanding sps will not grow or thrive under pc. t5 or mh r the best.

depends on the size of the tank. 100+w of pc over a 10g or less tank may work for montis. would need to have great flow and water quailty too

This is a purple tip digitada. A digi is about the easiest SPS one could ask for. It was kept under PC's...

Then after some time under 250 watt halides...Top left...

ouch Tizzo. Talk about bleached out!
In my prior comment, I certainly wasnt saying PCs were recommended but that is crazy.

Ok, I am building a frag tank, it is going to be a 10 gallon. I am going to have a "Clip On" 150 watt MH lighting. Would that be too much for a 10 gallon?

it might be unless you use 20k bulbs.

a 70 watt 14k would be perfect
yeah thats what im thinking too. it wont affect temperature in that small of a tank like a 150w would too. and the colors will be nice under the 14k bulb

this is interesting, i was just talking to a friend today about sps under t5's
he said that he has a monti that was under haildes at the LFS, and never grew, he put it under his t5's, and it took off, he also said that he had some acro under there as well, don't know the exact name but he said in was green with bright purple tips

its tough to judge the accuracy of this statement without knowing so many details about the tank and the specific lighting setup. If its 2 different tanks, that introduces a whole slew of other variables. Generally, MH is better than T5, although in some instances by such a slim amount that they are essentially equivalent. T5 also has benefits over a MH (less heat, greater color combination with bulbs) that makes people outright prefer them to MH. But I will always be using MH with t5 supplementing for act.

That very well could be. IMO people forget that the corals come from a variety of depths, and even a coral that comes from 2 meters down has a significantly different lighting need than one that is from 1 meter down. MH lights alot of times are brighter than normal daylight and can saturate the coral anyhow. Here is a good article that talks about different lighting needs of various corals as well as a chart towords the end of it that shows some different corals and their light requirements in PAR.
