lowering trates???

what is a good way in lowering nitrates besides doing water changes? my trates are hanging at about 60. are there any additives you can add? i do not have a sump, i have a cannister filter. any suggestions? i would love the trates to be at around 10.

A protien skimmer will help lower nitrates. You could also try to cut back on feeding a bit.

What type of substrate do you have? I had CC and my nitrates skyrocketed up to 80ppm. i have since replaced it with sand and it's steadliy dropped - It's now at 5ppm.
You could add a refugium system on back - the plants will eat the nitrate as food.

Watch how much you feed and do not over feed. Water changes are #1. As far as equipment goes all I use are a protien skimmer, refugium, 1 box filter and my nitrates stay at zero. My refugium is the best cure for my nitrates as I can not control my self when feeding. My fish are always acting like they are starving. ;)
