If you don't have a hole saw blade, try a wood saw blade. They cost about the same.
Improvements don't by percent, they go by patentability. If you post it though, you can't patent it.

This is an interesting idea. I should definitely consider it for my sump instead of my current refugium because I need room for a skimmer in there.
